Welcome to QoFIS 2003, the workshop on quality of future Internet services. It was the fourth international event organized by the European Union COST Action 263, the eponym of the workshop, and it focused explicitly on the provisioning of quality of service in the Internet, including wireless network access and host system support. The workshop served as a forum for the presentations and discussions of new and maturing approaches to QoS, and for bringing together researchers, developers and practitioners from both industry and academia.

QoFIS 2003 featured:

Keynote speaker: James Roberts, France Telecom R&D
Invited speaker: Jon Crowcroft, University of Cambridge

Twenty two research papers on many aspects of QoS
Best student paper award received by Julio Orozco

Research Seminar on Mobile Networks -- Quality of Service and Cross-Layer Issues
Speakers included: Eitan Altman, Chiara Petrioli, Holger Karl, Carla-Fabiana Chiasserini and Vasilios Siris

QoFIS 2003 was organized by the Laboratory for Communication Networks (LCN) of KTH, the Royal Institute of Technology. The research seminar on October 3 was organized in cooperation with the KTH Center for Wireless Systems. This workshop followed a series of highly successful meetings: in Zurich, Switzerland (QoFIS 2002), in Coimbra, Portugal (QoFIS 2001) and the first in Berlin, Germany (QoFIS 2000).
