This first part of the workshop continues the tradition of
past editions and similar events and will bring together users,
developers and researchers from academia, public and private
research institutions and industry to share information,
experiences and explore novel ideas around OpenMP. It will be
an excellent opportunity of meeting and discussing with experts in
the field of OpenMP programming and implementation.
In this year's EWOMP, we solicit papers from the same topics as
in previous workshops. However, we would like to extend the topics
with the use of OpenMP in embedded systems. The reason for this is
that parallel programming with shared memory is now entering the
embedded world. IP-cores from ARM (the MPcore)
and MIPS (MIPS32
24K) have multiprocessor capabilities and use cache coherence
techniques normally found only in high-end servers. ARM offers
OpenMP in their MPCore
IP-block and researchers are beginning to look at performance
issues of using OpenMP
for embedded applications.
Papers presented at EWOMP'04 will be eligible for publication
in a special issue of
Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience.
Topics of interest include:
- Applications (development experiences, case studies,
multiplatform development and performance portability,
comparisons with other approaches such as MPI, mixed OpenMP/MPI
programming, novel application fields)
- Use of OpenMP in embedded systems
- Programming model (compilation and optimization techniques,
proposal for and evaluation of language extensions, runtime
support)
- Tools (compilers, debuggers and performance analysis tools,
OpenMP implementations, benchmarking and performance studies)

Extended abstracts not larger than 5 pages are to be submitted
to ewomp2004@imit.kth.se
by August 30th. Upon acceptance the authors are asked to submit
their final papers for the workshop proceedings by September 27. They
may be up to 10 pages in length and must be in Acrobat .pdf
(prefered), postscript or Word .doc format. All submissions
should be sent to
ewomp2004@imit.kth.se. The
proceedings of the presented papers will be distributed at the
workshop. As in previous editions, EWOMP'04 will publish
extended versions of selected papers in a special issue of
Concurrency and computation: practice and experience.
Final versions of up to six pages of accepted papers are due
October 1st (the same day as early registration ends). Please
prepare the papers in IEEE or ACM two-column format and send them
to: ewomp2004@imit.kth.se
by October 1st.
