Course information
System Modeling and Simulation IV1200 (formerly 2G1531) is a 7.5 credits course offered at the KTH School of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The course discusses modeling, simulation and performance analysis techniques of complex systems such as communication and computer systems. After this course you should have the knowledge to model, simulate and analyze simple queuing systems such as communication and computer networks. Focusing on case studies, the course will help you to see the possibilities and limitations of mathematical modeling and simulation and to select the right method when modeling and analyzing a given system.

Prerequisites
- Introductory course in computer science
- Introductory course in mathematical statistics
- Good knowledge in a programming language (C, C++, or Java)

Examination
The course consists of a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part gives 4.5 credits and is assessed by a written exam, with grades A-F. See Examination for more information.
The practical part gives 3 credits. This part consists of two project assignments and must be done before 31 December 2011. The grade for this part is pass or fail. A student who does not complete the assignments before end of December 2011 must redo both projects, possibly with different content, next year. Students who complete projects and optional homework assignments before the given deadline will receive bonus points that can improve the grade of the written exam. These bonus points are valid only in the first exam given in October 2011. See Assignments and Homeworks for more information.
